Energy Management Alternative sources of energy are constantly evolving. Scientists and manufacturers are trying to come up with better products that are user friendly and economical. The government is drawing policies that encourage use of alternative sources of energy. NECA contractors have employed energy management guidelines in their projects for years and are leading the way in the installation of new, environmentally friendly technology. Photovoltaic (PV) solar power These systems convert sunlight to electricity. Solar power is one of the most promising renewable energy sources in the world. The advantages are clear:
Wind turbines Wind turbine technology features robust designs for long, reliable performance, variable speed control, independent blade pitch for reduced loads and cost-effective operation. They can produce energy during the day and at night and can be made to always face the most efficient direction. Daylighting controls Daylighting controls transform a day lit area into an energy-saving opportunity; with potential energy savings that can exceed 40%. Lights dim without distracting occupants of a building or switch off when daylight levels increase so that the light level change is not noticeable. Motion sensors A motion sensor is an electronic device that detects the physical movement in a given area and transforms motion into an electric signal. The motion sensor may be electrically connected to devices such as security systems, lighting, audio and fire alarms, and the like. Compact fluorescents (CFL) CFLs use 2/3 less energy than a standard incandescent light bulb and last up to ten times longer. Replacing a 60-watt incandescent with a 13-watt CFL can save you at least $30 in energy costs over the life of the bulb. CFLs also produce about 70% less heat than standard incandescent bulbs, so they’re safer to operate and can help cut energy costs. Geothermal radiant floor systems Hydronic/water floor heating systems are based on hot water pumped from a boiler through tubing underneath the floor. The hot water heats the slab and the thermal mass of the slab holds the heat and drives it slowly into other areas of a house or building. Radiant floor systems provide comfort, improved air quality (no dust), significant energy savings, are quiet and are particularly suitable to work with solar water heater systems or geothermal heat pump. LED lighting A Light Emitting Diode (LED) is a semiconductor device which converts electricity into light. There are several advantages to LED lighting:
